Blugolds skate to 2-2 tie with Falcons

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Coming off a big win to start Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Wednesday, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team hit the road for another conference match-up on Saturday, this time with UW-River Falls. The two squads would battle and finish with a 2-2 tie in overtime.

After a scoreless first period, River Falls would score at the 6:53 mark of the second period but Eau Claire would answer with a goal of their own 28 seconds later. The goal was Jon Richards' (So. – Callaway, MN/Detroit Lakes) fourth of the season and come from an assist by Jake Bresser (Jr. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial).

The Blugolds would take the lead at 7:03 into the third period as Tyler Tomberlin (Jr. – St. Paul, MN/Andover) lit the lap thanks to an assist from Johnny Mueller (Sr. – St. Peters, MO/Francis Howell Central).

With just under two minutes left in regulation, River Falls tied it up to force overtime. Though UWEC out-shot the Falcons 10-3 in the extra frame, neither team would find the back of the net.

For the game, Eau Claire out-shot River Falls 70-31 with 40 shots on goal and neither team would commit a penalty on the night.  Goaltender Zach Dyment (So. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) also recorded 20 saves.
