MENOMONIE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The No. 14 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team fell to UW-Stout 4-3 on Wednesday night on the road at Fanetti Community Center.

Box Score

The Blugolds were looking to win their fourth straight, but ran into four first period goals scored by rival UW-Stout due to costly turnovers and penalties.

The line of Dylan Zins, Austin Jackson, and Hunter Anderson contributed three of the four first period goals for the Blue Devils. Mattias Ahman scored the other on the power play to make it 4-0 after one period of play.

Goaltender Camden Haugenoe (Fr. - Williston, ND) was pulled after giving up the fourth goal with 1:46 left in the first period in favor of David Johnson (So. – Bloomington, MN) who saved all 13 shots he saw in the rest of the game.

Mac Jansen (Sr. – White Bear Lake, MN) got the Blugolds on the board with his eighth goal of the season to make it 4-1 with 6:13 left in the second period. The senior forward's tally was assisted by Alex Strand (So. – Roseau, MN) and Scott Munro (So. – Vancouver, BC).

The Blugolds added two more in the final period to make things interesting on goals scored by Jake Hopfner (Sr. – Eastpointe, MI) and Adam Parsells (Fr. – Wausau, WI). Head Coach Matt Loen called Johnson to the bench in the final minute but UW-Eau Claire was unable to find the equalizer as UW-Stout hung on for the 4-3 win.

The Blugolds (7-4-0) will now be in definite danger of falling out of the national rankings after dropping four of the first eleven games of the season. UW-Eau Claire will try and rebound on Saturday night as they take on UW-River Falls. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center for that matchup.
