Men’s Hockey Runs Past Raiders

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The power play of the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team continues to be red-hot as the Blugolds defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) 4-0 here tonight at Hobbs Ice Center.

The Blugolds improve to 6-3-2 on the season while the Raiders fall to 6-5-0.  Eau Claire is now 6-0-0 all-time against MSOE.  The Blugolds have outscored the Raiders 42-4 including three shutout victories.

On its third power play of the first period, Preston Hodge (So.-Normal, IL/Oregon) scored his second goal of the season, both coming off power plays, at 15:43 of the first period assisted by Jack Callahan (Sr.-Red Bank, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Brandon Wahlin (So.-White Bear Lake, MN) giving the Blugolds a 1-0 lead.

The Eau Claire power play continued to click as Ethan Nauman (Jr.-Mosinee, WI) scored a power play goal at 5:08 assisted by Wahlin and Jake Hopfner (Fr.-Eastpointe, MI/Warren Woods Tower) extending the Eau Claire lead to 2-0.

Nauman added his second goal of the night at 7:00 of the third period unassisted giving the Blugolds a 3-0 lead.  Patrick Moore (So.-Grand Rapids, MN) closed out the evening with his second goal of the season at 17:50 of the third period assisted by Jeff Pauluk (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) and Todd Koritzinsky (Fr.-Verona, WI/Middleton).

With his performance Nauman now leads the Blugolds with 13 points and nine goals.  Wahlin cracked double-digit points with 10 and Callahan leads Blugold defensemen with six assists. 

Goalie Tyler Green (Jr.-Noblesville, IN) posted his second shutout of the season saving 34 shots between the pipes.  His season record now stands at 4-1-1.

Eau Claire outshot MSOE 43-34.  The Blugold power play has now scored four goals in their last two games while holding opponents without a power play goal for the fifth-consecutive game.  Both teams were whistled for nine infractions.

The Blugolds play their final home game of the fall semester when they host the Lawrence University Vikings.  Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center.
