Andersen Lead Men's Hockey Over Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The 13th-ranked UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team capped off Thanksgiving weekend with a 3-1 victory at Augsburg College here tonight at Ed Saugestad Rink.

The Blugolds improve to 4-2-2 on the season while the Auggies fall to 5-4-0.  Eau Claire has won five of its last six meetings with Augsburg.  The Auggies are currently receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com NCAA Division III National Poll.  The Blugolds are 11-0-2 against MIAC schools in their last 13 meetings, a streak that dates back to January of 2013.

Ross Andersen (Sr.-River Falls) scored his fifth goal of the season at 15:54 of the first period assisted by Patrick Moore (So.-Grand Rapids, MN) and Adam Knochenmus (So.-Roseau, MN) giving the Blugolds a 1-0 lead.

Augsburg tied the game 1-1 at 14:26 of the second period but Eau Claire quickly regained the lead when Ethan Nauman (Jr.-Mosinee, WI) scored his sixth goal of the season at 15:47 assisted by Todd Koritzinsky (Fr.-Verona, WI/Middleton) and David Henry (So.-Foster City, CA/Junipero Serra).

Eau Claire added an insurance goal in the third period when Andersen scored his second goal of the game and sixth goal of the season at 4:33 assisted again by Knochenmus and Moore.

The goal tied Nauman for the team lead in goals with six.  Andersen and Nauman are also tied for the team lead in points with nine.  It was the third two-goal game of the season for Andersen. 

Knochenmus and Moore assisted on both Andersen goals.  Both players also share the team lead in assists with six.

Goalie Tyler Green (Jr.-Noblesville, IN) saved 25 shots on the evening improving his season record to 3-0-1.

Eau Claire was outshot by Augsburg 26-24.  Both teams were whistled for three minor penalties.  Neither team scored a power play goal as both teams went 0-for-2 on the evening.

The Blugolds open WIAC play next Friday, December 5 when it travels to ninth-ranked UW-Stevens Point.  Face-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
