Two Blugolds Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's hockey goalie Tyler Green (So.-Noblesville, Ind.) and women's hockey forward Nikki Kothenbeutel (Sr.-Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Playing in two games at UW-Stout, Green played all but six seconds in goal and gave up just one goal as the Blugolds won both contests.  In a 4-0 victory on Jan. 31, Green stopped 23 shots, while stopping 32 out of 33 shots on Feb. 1, in a 3-1 win over the Blue Devils.  He is now 9-4-0 on the season and has recorded four shutouts.

Playing two games during the week, Kothenbeutel scored two goals and recorded two assists as the Blugolds split wins.  In a 4-3 victory over Hamline University (Minn.) on Jan. 29, Kothenbeutel scored the Blugolds' third goal in the third period on a power-play at 8:21, while picking up an assist on the Blugolds' game-winner, which came just 26 seconds later.  Against No. 6-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 1, UW-Eau Claire fell just short, 3-2. Kothenbeutel was part of both Blugold goals, assisting on the first goal at 8:46 in the opening period and scoring the Blugolds' second goal, unassisted, at 15:56 in the second period.  She now leads the team with six goals and is second on the team with 10 points.
