Men's Hockey Picks Up 6-1 Road Win Over MSOE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Coming off three straight games without a win, the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team was looking to get back on track in the final two games before the holiday break. Playing against a Milwaukee School of Engineering team with just one win on the season, the Blugolds took care of business with a 6-1 win on the road.

After a scoreless first period, the Blugolds (6-3-1) erupted for four in the second period to take control of the game. Joe Krause (Jr.-Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) got the scoring started at 6:06 of the second period with a power-play goal on assists from Jeff Pauluk (So.-Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) and Ross Andersen (Jr.-River Falls, Wis./River Falls).

At 12:11, Daniel Olszewski (Sr.-Janesville, Wis./Craig) gave the Blugolds a 2-0 lead while Andersen picked up his second assist of the night. Just a few minutes later, at 14:42, Olszewski tallied another goal on assists from Andersen and Alex Olson (Sr.-Devils Lake, N.D./Devils Lake). Jared Williams (Sr.-West Chicago, Ill./Bartlett) capped off the scoring in the second period at 18:05 with David Donnellan (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Jon Waggoner (Sr.-Fairbanks, Alaska,Lathrop) providing the helpers.

MSOE (1-10-0) cut into the lead just 32 seconds into the third period with an even strength goal that made it a 4-1 UW-Eau Claire lead. Jack Callahan (Jr.-Red Bank, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) answered the MSOE goal with his first of the night at 4:56 with assists from Derek Knetter (So.-Wausau, Wis./West) and Krause.

Donnellan tallied the Blugold's second goal of the night with the man advantage, and the final goal of the game at 15:57 with assists from Pauluk and Olszewski.

Jay Deo (Fr.-Langley, B.C./Langley) made 14 saves on 15 shots in his fourth start of the season. He improved to 3-0-1 this season with the victory. The Blugolds outshot MSOE 28-15 in the game, including 16-1 in the final period.

The game was not short on penalties for either team, particularly MSOE. The Raiders finished with 60 penalty minutes on 19 penalties, while the Blugolds were penalized 11 times for 22 minutes. The Blugolds were 2-for-12 on the power-play while the Raiders finished 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.

The Blugolds are on the road again Saturday for the final game before the holiday break. The will play Lawrence University at 7 p.m. They return to action Jan. 7 when they return home to play Augsburg (Minn.) in a nonconference matchup at 7 p.m.
