Men's Hockey Announces 2012-13 Team Award Winners

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team honored its players for their efforts during the 2012-13 season as head coach Matt Loen recently announced the team award winners.

Earning Jeff Jaraczewski MVP honors for the second straight year was Brandon Stephenson (Sr.-Saline, Mich.). Stephenson, a goalie, led the conference in winning percentage (.821) and ranked first in total saves (790). He was one of the busiest goalies in the NCHA and still managed to lead his team to victory on most nights. Stephenson led the NCHA in conference minutes played (1087:12) and save percentage (.930). He went undefeated from October 26 through December 1. In program archives, Stephenson ranks first in both career wins with 48 and season wins with 22. He finished his career with 2,126 saves, fourth most in school history, and had a career save percentage of .919, also first in school history. He is also first in career goals-against-average with a mark of 2.27. He earned numerous honors this season being named NCHA Player of the Year as well as being selected to multiple All-American teams.

The Richard G. O'Brien Academic and Athletic Excellence award was presented to Jordan Singer (Sr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial). Earning NCHA and WIAC Scholar-Athlete honors, Singer ended the season earning All-American honors while also being named the NCAA Division III Championship's most outstanding player. Singer, a forward, led the Blugolds with 22 goals and 36 points. He tied for sixth on the team with 14 assists. His 22 goals was a league-high. He ended his career 15th in program history for career points with 100 and eighth with 55 goals. He is first in school history in game-winning goals with 11.

Earning the Wallace G. Akervik Freshman of the Year award was Jeff Pauluk (Fr.-Bloomington, Wis./Jefferson). A defenseman, Pauluk played in 12 games this season and scored one goal. He was part of a defense that gave up just 68 goals and 935 shots while the Blugolds compiled 125 goals and 1,040 shots.

Andrew McCabe (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) earned the team's Most Dedicated award. Playing in all 31 games, McCabe was second on the team with 27 points coming from a team-high 20 assists and seven goals.

David Donnellan (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Robbie Anderegg (Jr.-Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) were also named captains for next season.

The Blugolds finished the season with a record of 24-5-2, their best mark ever, after capturing the 2013 NCAA Division III title.
