Singer Named NCHA Scholar-Athlete

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) — The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association announced the 2013 All-Academic Team today and UW-Eau Claire's Jordan Singer (Sr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) was selected as the NCHA Scholar-Athlete winner. Singer is a business management major and three-time All-Academic winner.

Along with being one of the top player's and team captain on the ice, Singer has had an equally impressive career off the ice. He has been named to UW-Eau Claire's Dean's List three times. He also volunteers at least once per week for four months of the year working with youth hockey players.

This season, Singer was named to the All-NCHA First-Team for the second straight season and his third All-NCHA team overall. He helped lead the Blugolds to their first ever regular season NCHA championship also helped lead them to the Peters Cup finals. The team also received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament for just the second time in school history.

He has led the Blugolds in scoring the past three seasons and led the team this year with 20 goals and 13 assists for a total of 33 points. Singer had at least one point in 20 of the 26 games he played in and had ten multi-point games.

Isaiah Bennis (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), Devin Mantha (Sr.-Sturgeon Falls, Ontario/Ann Arbor Pioneer) and Alex Olson (Jr.-Devils Lake, ND/Devils Lake) were also named to the team, all for their second time.

Bennis finished the season second in goals with ten and added eight assists for 18 points in 21 games.

Mantha played in 26 games this year and scored five goals and added nine assists for 14 points in his final season with the Blugolds.

Olson played in 18 games this season anchoring one of the top defenses. He had five assists and added one goal this year.

First-time honorees were Daniel Olszewski (Jr.-Janesville, Wis./Craig) and Andrew Wilcox (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) to round out the field of Blugolds.

Olszewski played his first season with the Blugolds after transferring from Denver. He finished the season with six goals and 16 assists while playing much of the season on a line with Singer.

Wilcox was the other line mate of Olszewski and Singer for the majority of the season. The senior has five goals and 14 assists in 27 games this season.

Mantha was also a finalist for the Scholar-Athlete award in a field of five players, including Singer.

The Scholar-Athlete Award is given annually to a senior or seniors who demonstrate excellence both on and off the ice, who earn a minimum GPA of 3.5 and who are in their final year of eligibility.
