Two Blugolds Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's diver Nick Badilla (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) and men's hockey goalie Brandon Stephenson (Sr.-Saline, Mich.) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Competing at UW-Whitewater on Jan. 26, Badilla won both the one and three-meter diving events.  He scored 282.85 points on the three-meter, while coming away with 271.45 points in the one-meter.

In two games during the weekend, Stephenson made 61 saves as the Blugolds won against two NCHA opponents to take over first place in the league standings.  On Jan. 25 against No. 2-ranked St. Norbert College, Stephenson stopped 40 shots as the Blugolds defeated the Green Knights 3-0.  It was just the second time in history the Blugolds shutout St. Norbert, and was the first time the Green Knights didn't scored a goal in nearly a year.  At UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 26, Stephenson made 21 saves and the Blugolds went on to win 3-2.  The victory was Stephenson's 40th career win, tying for first in school history for most wins in a career with Tom Johnson (1980-84).  It was also his 14th win of the season, one behind a school record for most wins in a season.
