Men's Hockey Sweeps Concordia to Stay Undefeated

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The fourth-ranked UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team remained undefeated on the season with a 6-3 victory over Concordia University (Wis.) at Hobbs Ice Center today.

The Blugolds also won 12-4 last night to push their unbeaten streak to 10 games as they improve to 9-0-1 on the season. Eau Claire is currently on its longest undefeated streak in school history.

Eau Claire had two goals in each period today.

Jon Waggoner (Jr.-Fairbanks, Alaska/Lathrop) led five Blugolds who scored goals as he finished with two. Waggoner scored both Blugold goals in the third period, a short-handed goal at 4:30 and the team's final goal of the game at 17:27.

Mark Pustin (Jr.-Northridge, Calif./Granada Hills) got the Blugolds on the board today with an even strength goal at 11:17 in the first period and Isaiah Bennis (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) followed with another at 12:01 to give the Blugolds a 2-0 lead. Concordia scored less than a minute later and the score was 2-1 at the end of the first period.

In the second period, The Blugolds also scored two goals. Jordan Singer (Sr.-Lino Lake, Minn./Centennial) found the back of the net at 8:27 and Brian Nehring (Jr.-Hopedale, Mass./Milford) scored what eventually proved to be the game-winner at 18:10.

Pustin led the Blugolds with three assists.

Eau Claire outshot the Falcons 53-20 and Blugold goalie Alex Bjerk (Sr.-Roseau, Minn.) made 17 saves to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Concordia drops to 4-5 on the season.

The Blugolds will be home again next Friday and Saturday for a series against conference opponent UW-Stevens Point. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. both nights.
