Men's Hockey Team Outlasts St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team moved to a perfect 6-0 after tonight's victory over the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.), by a score of 7-5. The win was the second consecutive win for the Blugolds in two nights, both against the Saints.

In a back and forth battle, the Blugolds gained momentum early in the third period when defenseman David Donnellan (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) scored his third goal of the season for the Blugolds, giving them a 6-5 lead. The Blugolds managed to score their final goal with just ten seconds left on an empty net.

The Blugolds maintained an up-tempo offensive attack throughout the game, with six different players scoring for the team and leading the shot chart 48-34. They also recorded 11 assists to their seven goals, with Donnellan, Andrew McCabe (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Niko Kapetanovic (Jr.-North Prairie, Wis./Kettle Moraine) leading the team with two assists each.

UW-Eau Claire also found strength in its power play offense, when both Mark Pustin (Jr.-Northridge, Calif./Granada Hills) and Jordan Singer (Sr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored on power plays for the team. The Blugolds went 2-for-4 on power plays tonight.

Isaiah Bennis (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) led the team with two goals. This was Bennis' second straight multiple goal night, bringing his total to four goals this season.

Brandon Stephenson (Sr.-Saline, Mich.) played another full game in net for the Blugolds. He managed to save 29 of the Saints 34 shots. The game was Stephenson's fifth full game at keeper for the Blugolds.

The Blugolds will play their next game on the road against St. Norbert College (Wis.) next Friday at 7 p.m. while they will also take on the Green Knights at 7 p.m. Saturday.
