BUFFALO, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team had a strong second period scoring three goals en route to a 4-1 victory over nonconference opponent St. John's University.
Tyler Jundt (Sr.-Williston, ND/Williston) scored the first goal of the night in the second period at 7:25 on the power play opportunity. Getting the assist on the Jundt goal was Ross Andersen (Fr.- River Falls, Wis./River Falls) and Tyler Romasco (Sr.-Perry, Ohio/Perry). St. John's came back right away tied the game up 1-1 at 8:55. The tie did not last long as Devin Mantha (Jr.-Sturgeon Falls, Ont./Ann Arbor Pioneer) scored a goal at 9:12 on a breakaway shot to pull the Blugolds ahead again 2-1. David Donnellan (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) scored the final goal of the period at 12:10 on a pass from Mantha to increase the lead to 3-1.
In the third period, Ross Andersen got the last goal of the night at 11:04 ending the score at 4-1.
The Blugolds put up 45 shots against the Johnies. Andrew Martin (Fr .-Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) got the win for the Blugolds and improves to 3-1 on the season. Martin had 27 saves on the night.
The Blugolds return to action at home next Saturday against St. Olaf. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. at the Hobbs Ice Center.
