Greer named interim head men's and women's golf coach

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – A familiar face will lead the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire golf programs this spring. Alum and former Head Coach Mike Greer will take over as the interim head men's and women's golf coach, effective immediately.

Greer, a Class A member of the PGA of America and golf professional at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club, served as an assistant this fall.

"My wife and I welcomed an addition to our family this summer so it was nice to serve as an assistant this fall as I focused on my family," said Greer. "Now that my daughter is a little older I am ready and excited to step back in as interim head coach for the Blugolds."

Greer replaces Courtney Everett who relinquished her coaching duties in December.

A four-time letter winner for the Blugolds, Greer received honorable mention All-American honors in 2004 and was named to the PING All-Central Region Team in 2007.

In his two previous seasons coaching the women's team, Greer led the Blugolds to two second-place finishes in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Blugolds will kick off the spring season April 14 at the Minnesota State Invitational.

In his four years on the men's side, Greer had one player earn NCAA Division III PING All-America and another earn NCAA Division III All-Freshmen Honors, one of six in the nation to be recognized.  As a team, Greer coached the Blugolds to four tournament victories. The Blugold men will start their spring season on April 7 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.

A search for a new coach will begin this summer.
