Men's Golf Places 5th at SJU Invite

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team came out strong on Sunday at the Saint John's Invitational, moving up from ninth place on Saturday to finish fifth overall.

In the first round, Jake Erickson (Sr.-Chaska, MN/Academy of Holy Angels) led the Blugolds with a 74 while teammate Brady Hanson (So.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) turned in a 75. As a team, Eau Claire shot a 307, which put them in 10th out the 18-team tournament.

In the second round, all of the Blugold golfers cut strokes off their scores. Hanson led the way with a 70 and Ryan Isaacson (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) finishing with a 72 as Eau Claire ended the round with a team score of 290.

In the third and final round, the Blugolds improved yet again, this time turning in a team score of 289 for a total of 886 (30 over par) to take fifth place.

Hanson and Erickson shot a 71 while Isaacson followed with a 72. Hanson's overall score of 216 was good enough for seventh place with Erickson tying for ninth with an overall score of 218. Isaacson also finished in the top 20, tying for 18th with an overall total of 220.

The Blugolds will be back in action on Friday, traveling to Stillwater, Minn. for the StoneRidge Classic.
