Men's Golf Wins Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – For the first time since 2007, the UW-Eau Claire men's golf team won its annual fall invitational, taking first place out of 14 teams at the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational at Eau Claire Golf and Country Club today.

The Blugolds led after day one with 299 strokes but improved today, shooing 297, to win the invite with 596 strokes. Edgewood College took second with 607 strokes while Bethel University (Minn.) was third with 610.

Leading the Blugolds was David Walter (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), who finished in second place with 145 strokes (+3). He was just three behind Andrew Peter from Luther College (Iowa), who finished the tournament with 142.

The top four Blugolds all finished tied for ninth or better. Nick Bertram (So.-Onalaska, Wis.), Ben Brooks (Sr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Joey Dreier (Fr.-New London, Minn.) finished in a four-way tie for ninth place with 151 strokes.

Eau Claire also had a second team competing and that team took eighth place. Kendall Faanes (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) led the second group of Blugolds by tying for 13th place with 152 strokes.

Next up, the Blugolds will wrap up the fall portion of their season by competing at the three-day Gustavus Adolphus Twin Cities Classic, which will be contested at three different courses in Minnesota. Action will get underway Saturday and will conclude Monday.
