Men's Basketball improves to 4-1 with 68-56 win over Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team traveled to take on the UW-Superior Yellowjackets on Wednesday night, with the Blugolds coming home with a 68-56 win.

A strong start had Eau Claire up by as many as 10 in the first half, despite only shooting 34.4 percent (11-32) from the field. But the Blugold defense held the Yellowjackets to 41.7 percent (11-24) to maintain the lead and had a 28-26 advantage heading into the locker room.

Both teams would shoot 54 percent in the second half but Eau Claire would knock down six threes and were a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. UWEC would never relinquish the lead and led by as much as 17 in the second half on their way to a 68-56 non-conference win.

Cole Rabedeaux (Jr. – Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap) paced Eau Claire with 16 points while Spencer Page (Fr. – Rice Lake, WI) and Sean Miller (Jr. – Waukesha, WI/Kettle Moraine) came off the bench to chip in 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Ben Widdes (Sr. – Rice Lake, WI) had another balanced night, recording 10 points, a team-high seven rebounds and four assists along with one steal. Steve Christiansen (Sr. – Apple Valley, MN) also had a strong night with nine points, six rebounds, three blocks and two assists.
