Blugolds earn WIAC honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) office announced the 2018 All-WIAC men's basketball awards on Wednesday, with George Diekelman (Sr. – Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) leading the way for the Blugolds with First Team honors for the third-straight season.

Diekelman led the Blugolds and was second in the WIAC with a scoring average of 16.2 points per game. The senior was also fourth in the WIAC for assists (72), 10th in steals (29) and free throw percentage (77.5 percent). Diekelman also made his mark on the Blugold history books, becoming the 41st player in program history to score 1,000 points. He finished his career with 1,290 points which ranks 11th all-time.

Also earning recognition was Chris Duff (Sr. – Walker, MN) who was named to the Honorable Mention Team. Duff led the team in field goal percentage (49.5 – ninth in the WIAC) and was second on the squad in points per game (15.0) which ranked him seventh in the conference.  The senior was second in the WIAC with 60 made three-point field goals, sixth for blocked shots (15), sixth for defensive rebounds (106) and ninth for total rebounds (129). Duff also put his name in the Eau Claire history books as he tallied 142 made three's in his career, which ranks fifth in program history along with a three-point percentage of 39.9, which is seventh.

In addition, Dan Becken (Sr. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Blugolds finished the season with a 12-13 overall record and 4-10 mark in the WIAC.
