Men’s basketball takes down UW-Stout

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team was victorious against the University of Wisconsin-Stout 72-58 Wednesday night in Zorn Arena.

The Blugolds were hot out of the gate, jumping to an early lead and knocking down 10 three-pointers (10-23, 43.5 percent) while holding the Blue Devils to 9-28 from the field (32.1 percent) to take a 38-25 lead into the locker room.

Despite a Stout rally late in the second half, the Blugolds would hit key shots and were solid from the free throw line (15-19, 78.9 percent) to cruise to a 72-58 win.

Tyson Kalien (Sr. Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi) led Eau Claire to victory with 18 points while making five of 10 from beyond the arc. George Diekelman (So. Stevens point, WI/SPASH) also contributed with 16 points. The Blugolds shot 40 percent from the floor while Stout shot 38 percent from the floor and 56 percent from the charity stripe. John Keefe led Stout with 17 points shooting six for 15 from the floor.

With the win Eau Claire moves to 9-5 (2-1 WIAC) and will be back in action Saturday, January 16th against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in Zorn Arena. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. and will be Jr. Blugolds/Youth Night.
