Blugolds Fall to Falcons, 80-71

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team fell to UW-River Falls Wednesday night, 80-71 at the Karges Center in River Falls.

The Falcons took control early, mounting small leads before going on a run late in the half to take an 11-point lead with 2:43 remaining in the half. The Blugolds were able to chip away in the final minutes but still were down 36-29 at the half.

The second half saw the Falcons pick up where they left off. River Falls would never give up the lead despite the Blugolds shooting nearly 50 percent from the field.

For the game, the Blugolds were 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the field and 34.6 (nine-of-26) from three.

River Falls shot 45 percent (27-of-60) from the field and was 47.6 (10-of-21) from behind the arc.

Lewis Mau (Sr.-Colfax, WI)led all scorers with 19 points and also tallied five points, five rebounds and two steals. Tyson Kalien (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, WI) added 13 points while Kevin Jensen (So.-Victoria, MN) came off the bench to score 14 points.

Despite the loss, the Blugolds (10-14, 6-9 WIAC) have clinched a spot in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tournament and will travel to Oshkosh on Saturday to wrap up the regular season. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
