"It was a hard fought ballgame," said Blugold head coach Matt Siverling. "In the second half we picked up the intensity but just couldn't get over the hump."

Both teams shot well in the first half, with Eau Claire connecting on 42.9 percent of their shots from the field compared to 48 percent for Superior. But the second half proved to be another story.

The Yellowjackets and Blugolds struggled from the field and relied mostly on second chance points. Free throws were again a key stat as Superior hit 20 on 25 attempts from the charity stripe while the Blugolds only went to the line 11 times, sinking seven free throws.

Tyson Kalien (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, WI) led the Blugolds for the second straight game, recording 16 points while Jack Martinek (So.-New Brighton MN) and Cavan Stackpool (Jr.-Virginia, MN) chipped in nine and eight points, respectively.

Superior's Brian Lindblom led all scorers with 22 points.

The Blugolds (3-6, 0-3 WIAC) will finish their three-game home stand on Saturday as they host St. Norbert at 5 p.m.
