Moody’s 22 Points Lifts Men’s Basketball Over Olivet, 76-61

WHEATON, Ill (blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team defeated Olivet College, 76-61 on Saturday night, finishing 1-1 at the Lee Pfund Classic hosted by Wheaton College.

The Blugolds controlled most of the first half and a late surge gave UWEC a 15-point lead, 47-32, to close out the first half.

The Blugolds picked up where they left off in the second half, maintaining a double-digit lead the rest of the game. UWEC's lead was as high as 19 in the second half before cruising to a 15-point victory.

Kurtis Moody (Jr.-Pequot Lakes, MN) had the hot hand for the Blugolds, leading all scorers with 22 points. Lewis Mau (Sr.-Colfax, WI), Adam Hjelter  (Jr.-Hutchinson, MN) and Tyson Kalien  (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, WI) all scored in double-figures for the Blugolds, finishing with 11, 12 and 10 points, respectively. Mau also led the way with seven rebounds.  

UWEC shot 48.2 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from three's and 80 percent from the free throw line.

R.J. Haas lead Olivet with 20 points. The Blugold defense held the Comets to 38.5 percent from the field and 20 percent from behind the arc.

The Blugolds will return to Zorn Arena, Wednesday, November 26 at 7 p.m. and will play host to Wartburg College.
