Men's Basketball Drops Conference Game at UW-La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team dropped its second straight conference game, falling 75-59 to UW-La Crosse at Mitchell Hall tonight.

The Blugolds trailed most of the opening half, getting down by as many as 11 points 13 minutes into the game. But over the final seven minutes the Blugolds outscored the Eagles 16-8 and trailed by just three (34-31) at halftime.

Eau Claire came out in the second half and tied the game up at 37, three minutes into the half. But La Crosse steadily pulled away from Eau Claire, outscoring the Blugolds 38-22 over the final 17 minutes to win by 16.

Two Blugolds reached double digits in scoring with Jacob Kohner (So.-Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy) leading the way with 12 points while Lewis Mau (Jr.-Colfax, Wis.) contributed 11. Tying for a game-high with nine rebounds was Kurtis Moody (So.-Pequot Lakes, Minn.).

While La Crosse scored just two more baskets from the field (25-23), 10 of them were from beyond the arc while the Blugolds had just three. The Blugolds outrebounded the Eagles 39-37.

Eau Claire falls to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC while La Crosse improves to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

The Blugolds will be home Wednesday for a game against UW-Platteville. Action will get underway at 7 p.m. in Zorn Arena.
