2014-15 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 20 (January 26-February 1)

Women’s Basketball

Teenie Lichtfuss, Guard, 5-10, Junior, Oshkosh, WI/Lourdes
Lichtfuss was the only Blugold to score double-digit points in two road games this past week.  In a 61-59 loss at UW-Stout Lichtfuss scored a game-high 20 points in addition to collecting six rebounds, five steals and four assists in 38 minutes of action.  Lichtfuss made 8-of-15 field goal attempts including one-of-four three-point field goals and a perfect three-of-three from the free throw line.  In a 56-43 loss at UW-Stevens Point Lichtfuss scored a team-best 15 points to go along with four rebounds, three steals, one assist and one blocked shot.  For the week Lichtfuss averaged 17.5 points, five rebounds, four steals and 2.5 assists per game making 13-of-28 (.464) field goals, one-of-six (.167) three-point field goals and eight-of-eight (1.000) free throws.




Gymnastics

Specialist:  Liz Stubbs, Junior, Wayzata, MN
Stubbs won two events as the Blugolds lost at three-time defending national champion UW-Whitewater 189.600-183.950.  Stubbs won the balance beam and floor exercise earning scores of 9.575 and 9.650, respectively.  On the vault Stubbs placed ninth with a score of 9.300.




Men’s Swimming and Diving

Swimming:  Jake McDade, Senior, Monona, WI/Monona Grove
McDade won two individual events and was the anchor of the first-place 400 Freestyle relay in a 139-123 dual meet loss to UW-Whitewater.  McDade won the 500 and 1000 Freestyle events posting times of 4:56.95 and 10:15.76 respectively.  His time in the 1000 Freestyle was the fastest time posted by McDade this season.  In the 400 Freestyle relay McDade was the anchor for a unit that earned first place with a time of 3:17.39.


Women’s Swimming and Diving

Swimming:  Allie Hable, Junior, Ankeny, IA
Hable posted four top-three finishes including one first place finish in a 150-112 dual meet loss to UW-Whitewater.  Hable won the 50 Freestyle finishing the race in 24.81 seconds.  Hable was the anchor of the second-place 200 Medley Relay and lead swimmer in the 400 Freestyle Relay completing both relays in 1:54.65 and 3:45.76, respectively.  Hable also finished third in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 56.84 seconds.


Men’s Track and Field

Field:  Brandon Zarnoth, Senior, Appleton, WI/North
Zarnoth won four of seven events to win the heptathlon with a score of 5,339 points at the Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout.  Zarnoth won all four field events jumping 6-4.75 (1.95 meters) in the high jump, 22-1.75 (6.75 meters) in the long jump, clearing 14-7.25 (4.45 meters) in the pole vault and throwing 43-1.75 (13.15 meters) in the shot put.  Zarnoth finished second in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles posting times of 7.08 and 8.59 seconds respectively while finishing fifth in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:55.30.  Currently Zarnoth ranks first in the nation in the heptathlon with this weekend’s score which is 100 point more than his next closest competitor.

Track:  Cody Prince, Senior, Appleton, WI/North
Prince broke a 24-year old school record this past weekend at the Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout.  Prince won the 600-meter dash in a time of 1:20.85 breaking the school record of 1:21.39 set by Andy Eslinger on March, 3, 1990.  Both times were ran at UW-Stout.


Women’s Track and Field

Field:  Sarah Glidden, Sophomore, Greenville, WI/Hortonville
Glidden finished second in her first-ever pentathlon event earning 3,278 points at the Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout.  Glidden won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.21 and the high jump clearing 5-4.5 (1.64 meters).  Glidden placed third in the 60-meter hurdles posting a time of 9.53 seconds and in addition to a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 16-7.25 (5.06 meters).  In the shot put Glidden finished fifth with a toss of 25-8.75 (7.84 meters).  Currently Glidden ranks fourth nationally in the pentathlon and 25th in the high jump with the mark achieved in the pentathlon.

Track:  Carly Fehler, Senior, Oak Creek, WI
Fehler won the 60 and 200-meter dashes at the Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout.  Fehler ran the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.88 seconds and the 200 in 26.06 seconds.  Currently Fehler ranks 10th nationally in the 60-meter dash and 11th in the 200-meter dash with her performance over the weekend.
