Women’s Basketball
Courtney Lewis, Forward, 5-10, Senior, Prairie du Chien,
WI
Lewis played a strong all-around game leading the Blugolds to
a 68-42 win over UW-Platteville at Zorn Arena. Lewis scored
13 points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds, seven
assists and three steals in 26 minutes of action. From the
field Lewis made six-of-nine field goal attempts including a
one-for-one performance from the three-point line. The
victory was the fifth-straight for the Blugolds over the Pioneers
at Zorn Arena, a streak that started with a 46-45 win on February
5, 2011.
Gymnastics
All-Around: Tori Erickson, Freshman,
Woodbury, MN
Erickson tied for top all-around honors with a score of
36.200 as the Blugolds fell at Winona State (Minn.)
182.875-181.925. Erickson finished tied for second on the
balance beam with an 8.975, tied for sixth on the uneven bars and
floor with scores of 9.250 and 9.275 respectively while finishing
11th on the vault scoring an 8.700.
Olson earned first place on the balance beam while finishing second on the floor in a 182.875-181.925 dual meet loss at Winona State (Minn.). Olson won the balance beam posting a score of 9.125 while finishing second on the floor with a score of 9.575.
Men’s Hockey
Patrick Moore, Forward, 5-11, 170, Sophomore, Grand Rapids,
MN
Moore was a key component for the Blugold men’s hockey
team who won two games at UW-River Falls. The two losses were
the first for the Falcons at Hunt Arena this season. In the
latest USCHO.com rankings the Blugolds are ranked 14th
while the Falcons were ranked 3rd. In a 5-2
victory at River Falls on January 23 Moore assisted an empty net
goal scored by Brandon Wahlin at 18:00 of the third period.
The following night in a 4-3 win Moore scored two goals while
adding an assist in the victory. Moore scored goals at 1:36
of the second period and the eventual game-winning goal at 8:17 of
the third period. Moore assisted a Blugold power play goal at
9:47 of the second period. For the weekend Moore scored two
goals including a game-winning goal, added two assists and posted a
plus/minus of +1 in two games. Eau Claire is now 9-2 in their
last 11 games versus River Falls including a 6-1 mark in Hunt
Arena.
Women’s Hockey
Kim Van Brunt, Goalie, 5-5, Junior, Eagle River,
WI/Northland Pines
Van Brunt played exceptional between the pipes as the
Blugolds defeated UW-Superior 4-3 on January 24 at Wessman
Arena. The win followed a 7-2 Yellowjacket win the previous
night in Eau Claire at Hobbs Ice Center. Van Brunt saved 49
shots faced including 22 saves in the second period and 15 saves in
the third period. Van Brunt also saved one shot allowing no
goals in 53 seconds of play against Superior the previous
night. The win was the Blugolds’ first-ever conference
win in the WIAC. The victory also ended a six-game losing
streak to the Yellowjackets and marked the first Blugold win in
Wessman Arena since a 3-2 victory on February 10, 2012.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
Diving: Shawn Westphal, Junior, Eau Claire,
WI/North
Westphal earned second place finishes in the one and
three-meter diving events at the Point Invite hosted by UW-Stevens
Point. Westphal earned a one-meter score of 338.10 while
receiving 338.85 points for his performance in the three-meter
diving event.
Fisher posted two individual and three relay top-three finishes at the Point Invite hosted by UW-Stevens Point. Fisher won the 100 Breaststroke in a time of 1:02.24 while finishing third in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 22.26 seconds. Fisher was also a member of three relay teams that all achieved third place finishes. The 200 Freestyle relay clocked out at 1:29.36 while the 400 Freestyle and Medley relays finished in 3:20.33 and 3:48.58 respectively.
Diving: Sara Axness, Junior, Eau Claire,
WI/Memorial
Axness won both the one and three-meter events at the Point
Invite hosted by UW-Stevens Point. Axness won the one-meter
dive with a score of 465.35 outscoring the next closest finisher by
over 51 points. In the three-meter dive Axness posted a score
of 455.45 outscoring her next closest finisher by over 40
points.
Reed posted three individual and three relay top-four finishes at the Point Invite hosted by UW-Stevens Point. Reed finished second in the 200 and 500 Freestyle in times of 1:59.80 and 5:19.97 while finishing third in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 18:16.04. The 800 Freestyle relay finished second clocking in at 8:16.40 while the 400 Freestyle and Medley relays finished fourth in 3:49.35 and 4:11.83 respectively.
Men’s Track and Field
Field: Roger Steen, Throws, Senior, Luck,
WI
Steen won the weight throw and finished second in the shot
put at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular. Steen won the weight
throw with a toss of 57-9 (17.60m). Steen was the top
collegiate thrower in the shot put placing second with a throw of
54-2.5 (16.52m).
Prince took home three first place finishes at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular. Prince won the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.04 seconds in addition to being on the first-place 4 x 200-meter relay team finishing in a time of 1:34.21. In addition to his track finishes Prince also won the triple jump with a leap of 45-9 feet (13.94m).
Women’s Track and Field
Field: Sam Anderson, Junior, Forest Lake,
MN
Anderson won the weight throw while finishing second in the
shot put at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular. Anderson won the
weight throw with a toss of 52-10 (16.10m) outdistancing her next
closest opponent by over one foot. In the shot put Anderson
placed second with a throw of 41-6 feet (12.65m).
Fehler won the 60 and 200-meter dashes at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular. Fehler won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.91 seconds which was more than one-tenth of a second faster than the next closest finisher. In the 200-meter dash Fehler finished the race in 25.93 seconds.
