Men’s Basketball
Tyson Kalien, Guard, 6-1, 210, Junior, Chippewa Falls,
WI
Kalien continued his hot shooting as the Blugolds won their
second consecutive WIAC road game. In a 75-72 victory at
UW-Stout on January 7 Kalien led all scorers with 25 points making
nine-of-12 field goal attempts including a seven-of-nine
performance from the three-point line. Kalien also collected
three rebounds and two assists in the victory. The victory
snapped a five-game losing streak to the Blue Devils and was the
first Blugold victory at Johnson Fieldhouse since December 1,
2007. Kalien has scored 20 or more points in four of his last
six games.
Women’s Basketball
Teenie Lichtfuss, Guard, 5-10, Junior, Oshkosh,
WI/Lourdes
Lichtfuss had a career night as the Blugolds defeated rival
UW-Stout 66-49. Against the Blue Devils Lichtfuss scored 27
points making 11-of-14 field goals which included two-of-three
field goals and a perfect three-of-three from the free throw line
in 32 minutes of action. Lichtfuss also recorded three
steals, two rebounds and one assist. Her previous high in
scoring this season was an 18-point performance in a 78-50 victory
over Hamline University (MN) on November 16. Prior to January
7 Lichtfuss’ previous career high in points was set on
January 3, 2013 when she scored 22 points at UW-Stout in a 69-55
loss to the Blue Devils.
Gymnastics
All-Around: Tori Erickson, Freshman,
Woodbury, MN
Erickson started the season off well for the Blugolds.
In a 192.550-183.800 loss to Division I-Central Michigan University
on January 3, Erickson was the only Blugold who competed in all
four events and earned a total score of 37.025 earning a
9.250 on the vault, 9.200 on the bars, 9.400 on the beam and a
9.175 on the floor. At the UW-Eau Claire Invite on January 9,
Erickson helped the Blugolds to a second-place team finish and
earned an all-around score of 34.425. Erickson scored a 9.050
on the vault, 8.325 on the bar, 8.300 on the beam and 8.750 on the
floor.
Stubbs got out to a strong start for the Blugolds in two separate competitions. In a 192.550-183.800 loss to Division I Central Michigan University on January 3, Stubbs scored a 9.700 on the beam, 9.625 on the floor and 9.350 on the vault. Stubbs posted the highest scores for the beam and floor for the Blugolds against the Chippewas. At the UW-Eau Claire Invite on January 9, Stubbs again led the Blugolds posting team-best scores of 9.700 on the beam and 9.600 on the floor. Stubbs also earned a 9.250 on the vault.
Men’s Hockey
Ross Andersen, Forward, 5-10, 179 Pounds, Senior, River
Falls, WI
Andersen helped the Blugolds earn two non-conference
victories this past weekend. In a 5-3 victory over Marian
University (WI) Andersen scored the eventual game-winning goal
short-handed at 17:13 of the third period giving the Blugolds a 4-2
lead. Andersen has scored three of the Blugolds’ four
short-handed goals this season. In a 4-1 win at Augsburg
College (MN) Andersen again scored the eventual game-winning goal,
doing so at 3:41 of the second period which gave the Blugolds a 2-0
lead. For the week Andersen scored two goals, two assists and
scored a +3 in both games. Both goals were game-winners and
his +/- score was the highest score by either teams in both
games.
Women’s Hockey
Kim Van Brunt, Goalie, 5-5, Junior, Eagle River,
WI/Northland Pines
Van Brunt allowed just three goals in two games and earned
her first win of the season for the Blugolds. In a 2-1 loss
at St. Olaf (MN) on January 9 Van Brunt saved 32 shots in 58:23 of
action. The following night at Hobbs Ice Center Van
Brunt’s play in goal helped the Blugolds earn a 3-1
victory. Van Brunt saved 38 shots while playing all 60
minutes against the Oles. For the week Van Brunt went 1-1
allowing 1.5 goals per game, saving 70-of-73 shots faced (.959) and
allowed just one goal in 15 penalty kill opportunities.
Robbie Rocole, 157 Pounds, Sophomore, Lakewood,
WI/Wabeno
Rocole went 3-0 at the Muskie Duals hosted by Lakeland
College. Rocole opened the day scoring a technical fall over
TreJon House of the Milwaukee School of Engineering 17-1 at
5:00. In a 27-7 team win over host Lakeland, Rocole
decisioned Mat Gonzalez 5-1. In the final dual of the day
Rocole defeated Sam Koenig of the University of Chicago 4-1.
In three matches Rocole outscored his three opponents by a combined
score of 26-3.
