Game Day Review - Saturday, October 25, 2014

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Six UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action today, two at home and the rest on the road. Women's tennis competed on the first day of the WIAC Championship in Madison.

Football

UW-River Falls 20, UW-Eau Claire 10

While UW-Eau Claire and UW-River Falls were tied 10-10 at halftime, a scoreless second half by the Blugolds gave the Falcons the edge they needed to defeat the Blugolds 20-10 at Ramer Field today. The Blugolds opened the scoring today, finishing with a touchdown on their first possession of the game. They added a field goal in the second quarter. River Falls tacked on 10 more points in the second half, seven coming in the third quarter and three coming in the fourth quarter.

Men's Swimming & Diving

UW-Stevens Point & St. Cloud

In their first meet of the season, the men's swimming and diving team hosted UW-Stevens Point and NCAA Division II St. Cloud State here today at the McPhee Physical Education Center. St. Cloud defeated UW-Eau Claire 249-50 and UW-Stevens Point 217-83. Stevens Point beat Eau Claire 230-69.

Women's Swimming & Diving

UW-Stevens Point & St. Cloud

In their first home meet of the season, the women's swimming and diving team won three individual events against UW-Stevens Point and NCAA Division II St. Cloud State here today at the McPhee Physical Education Center. St. Cloud State defeated UW-Stevens Point 204-96 and beat UW-Eau Claire 211.50-88.50. Stevens Point edged Eau Claire 152.50-147.50.

Soccer

UW-Eau Claire 1, UW-Platteville 0

The women's soccer team earned a tough conference road victory, defeating UW-Platteville 1-0 here today at Pioneer Stadium. The game's lone goal came at 79:46 when forward Caroline Henderson scored her third goal of the season off a corner kick deflection giving the Blugolds a 1-0 lead. For the game Eau Claire outshot Platteville 23-4 and held a decisive 10-0 advantage on corner kicks.  Ten of the Blugolds' 23 shots were on goal.

Volleyball

UM-Morris 3, UW-Eau Claire 1 (25-14, 22-25, 29-27, 25-21)

The women's volleyball team came up short to the University of Minnesota-Morris, 3-1, today at the P.E. Center. Morris opened the match with 25-14 victory but the Blugolds followed that with a 25-22 win. In a very close third set, the Cougars came out on top 29-27 and followed that with a 25-21 win to claim the match. Katrina Raskie tied for a match high with 15 kills while Alexis Wong contributed 14.

Women's Tennis

WIAC Championship - No Team Scores

On day one of the WIAC Championship, all six Blugold singles players advanced to the second round with five winning their opening matches. Sarah Henderson came into the championship with a bye in the first round at No. 6. In doubles play, all three Blugold teams won their first round matches but lost in the second round. They will play for third place on Sunday, the final day of the WIAC Championship.
