2014-15 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 8 (Oct. 13-19)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - A total of six UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the eighth week of the 2014-15 season.

Soccer

Offense: Ashley Seymour, Midfielder, 5-4, Junior, Verona, Wis./Verona Area

Playing in just one game this week, a 1-0 loss to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, Seymour finished with one shot as she started for the Blugolds. As a team, Eau Claire had 10 shots, five of them on-goal.

Defense: Rachel Griffiths, Goalkeeper, 5-7, Sophomore, Waunakee, Wis.

Playing in just one game this week, a 1-0 loss to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, Griffiths made five saves, allowing just one second-half goal. She is currently 1-3 on the season.


Volleyball

Offense: Katrina Raskie, Outside Hitter, 5-9, Sophomore, Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest

With the Blugolds hosting the UW-Eau Claire Fall Classic this weekend, Raskie led the team in kills as the Blugolds finished with a 3-1 record. Opening the weekend with a 3-2 victory over 15th-ranked Trinity University (Texas), Raskie led the Blugolds with 15 kills while also recording 14 digs, fourth most on the team. She then tied for a team-high with 13 kills in a 3-1 victory over Saint Mary’s University (Minn.) to close Friday. Saturday, she had nine kills, second most on the team, in a 3-1 loss to No. 21-ranked Millikin University (Ill.), but then led the Blugolds again with 10 kills in a 3-0 victory over St. Scholastica (Minn.) to end the weekend. For the tournament, she had 47 kills in 16 sets, an average of 2.94 per set. She also had 50 digs, tied for third-most on the team, and came away with five block assists. For her efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the event.

Defense: Talia Jaskulske, Outside Hitter, 5-9, Freshman, Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul

With the Blugolds hosting the UW-Eau Claire Fall Classic this weekend, Jaskulske was second on the team in digs and led the team in service aces as they finished with a 3-1 record. Opening the weekend against 15th-ranked Trinity University (Texas), a team the Blugolds beat 3-2, she led the match with 24 digs. She finished in double figures in digs in two of the other three matches. For the week she totaled 54 digs and five service aces.


Men’s Cross Country

Darin Lau, Freshman, Eau Claire, Wis./Immanuel

Lau was the top overall freshman finisher at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational in an incredibly deep field that had four top 25-ranked NCAA Division II teams including No. 2-ranked Grand Valley State and No. 8-ranked Augustana College of South Dakota, along with 11 ranked Division III teams. Lau covered the 8,000-meter course in 25:10 and finished 33rd of 664 runners to help the Blugolds to a third place finish out of 45 teams, behind only first place and No. 1-ranked (NCAA DIII) North Central College, and Grand Valley State.


Women’s Cross Country

Kelsey Jaeger, Sophomore, Waukesha, Wis./West

After missing last year’s cross country season because of foot surgery, Jaeger is back in good form. She was the top finisher for the Blugolds at the AAE invitational at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, placing 78th out of 559 runners. Jaeger covered the 6,000-meter course in 22:41, leading the Blugolds to a 20th place finish out of 42 teams.
