2014-15 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 6 (Sept. 29-Oct. 5)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - A total of seven UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the sixth week of the 2014-15 season.

Women’s Tennis

Singles: Madison Rossebo, Senior, Minnetonka, Minn.

Facing two conference opponents at home this weekend, Rossebo won both of her No. 4 matches, dropping only five games along the way. Against UW-Stevens Point on Friday, a team the Blugolds beat 9-0, she won 6-1, 6-2. Rossebo followed that with a 6-2, 6-0 victory Saturday as the Blugolds defeated UW-Oshkosh 9-0.

Doubles: Nicole Pothen, Senior, Centerville, Minn./Centennial & Paige Kuepers, Junior, Green Bay, Wis./Southwest

The No. 2 doubles pair of Pothen and Kuepers won two matches against WIAC opponents this weekend to improve to 6-1 on the season. Pothen and Kuepers won 8-2 against UW-Stevens Point on Friday as the Blugolds won 9-0 while winning 8-2 Saturday against UW-Oshkosh, a team the Blugolds also beat 9-0.


Soccer

Offense: Ashley Seymour, Midfielder, 5-4, Junior, Verona, Wis./Verona Area

With the Blugolds splitting wins this week, Seymour scored one goal for the Blugolds. Wednesday, she scored the Blugolds’ third goal as they defeated UW-Superior 3-0.

Defense: Megan Hanson, Defender, 5-9, Junior, Verona, Wis./Verona Area

Hanson was part of a Blugold defense that gave up just 13 shots, including only five on-goal, this week as the Blugolds split wins. Against UW-Superior on Wednesday, the Blugolds recorded a shutout and allowed just four total shots, only one on-goal. Facing UW-Whitewater on Saturday, the team allowed just one goal after facing nine shots, four of which were on-goal.


Men’s Cross Country

Eric Knutson, Senior, Brookfield, Wis./Central

Knutson ran a strong race at the Blugold Invitational on Friday, finishing 22nd out of 410 runners. Knutson ran a great race, moving up throughout the entire 8,000-meter distance as can be seen from his 1,600 splits: 68th at 1,600, 43rd at 3,200, 37th at 4,800, 29th at 6,400 and 22nd at the finish.  Eric covered the course in 25:51 and was UW-Eau Claire's sixth runner, helping the Blugolds to a second place finish out of 25 teams, just four points behind defending National Champion St. Olaf College.


Women’s Cross Country

Lucy Ramquist, Junior, River Falls, Wis.

Ramquist was the top WIAC finisher, taking eighth place overall in a field of 409 runners at the Blugold Invitational on Friday. She led the Blugolds to a fifth place finish out of 24 teams and covered the 6,000-meter course in time of 22:45.
