EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Six UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action today, women's volleyball at home and the rest on the road.

Women's Volleyball

UW-Eau Claire 3. Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) 0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-22)
UW-Eau Claire 3. St. Norbert 1 (25-21, 16-25, 25-23, 25-21)

The volleyball team picked up two wins Saturday at the 2014 Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament in the McPhee Physical Education Center to finish the weekend 3-1. Against Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) in the day's first match, the Blugolds won 25-18, 25-14, 25-22. They followed that with a 3-1 victory over St. Norbert, 25-21, 16-25, 25-23, 25-21.

Men's Cross Country

St. Olaf Invitational - 2nd of 16

The men's cross country went to the St. Olaf Invitational Saturday hoping to make a statement. Teams all over Division III cross country received the message loud and clear. The third-ranked Blugolds took second overall behind NCAA Division II Sioux Falls, but in the process, they took down defending Division III national champion and top-ranked St. Olaf on the Oles home course. Transfer Josh Thorson took second overall to St. Olaf's Grant Wintheiser, who took third at last year's national meet. Thorson crossed the line of the 8,000-meter race in 24:56.2, a little under four seconds behind Wintheiser.

Women's Cross Country

St. Olaf Invitational - 4th of 16

The women's cross country team placed fourth out of 16 teams Saturday at the St. Olaf Invitational. The Blugolds scored 137 points while first-place Minnesota-Duluth won with 35. Carleton finished second while St. Olaf came in third. Lucy Ramquist took 17th overall in a time of 23:27.2 over the course of 6,000 meters.

Football

Wheaton (Ill.) 17, UW-Eau Claire 0

Taking on Wheaton College (Ill.) for the first time in history today, the football team trailed by just three points after three quarters but ended up falling 17-0 against the 20th-ranked Thunder at McCully Stadium. The teams kept it close through three quarters as Wheaton led by only three points following a 26-yard Thunder field goal with 1:39 remaining in the second quarter. But in the fourth quarter over a two-minute stretch, Wheaton scored two touchdowns and held the Blugolds scoreless the rest of the way.

Women's Golf

UW-Whitewater Fall Invitational - 2nd of 13

The women's golf team moved up two spots from day one to finish in second place out of 13 teams at the UW-Whitewater Fall Invitational at Delbrook Golf Club. The Blugolds shot 333 on day one but improved to record 325 on day two to finish the two rounds with 658 strokes. Two Blugolds finished in the top eight with Emily Stone leading the way with 161 strokes, coming in sixth place.
