EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Three UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the 27th week of the 2013-14 season.

Softball

Position – Deanna Gilane, Firstbase, 5-9, Junior, South Milwaukee, Wis.

Gilane led the Blugolds in hitting this week, starting four games at first base. She led the Blugolds in hits in three out of the four games and finished the week with a team-high seven hits and a batting average of .636. One of her hits was a double while she also scored one run and had one RBI. Gilane also had the highest on-base percentage, .714, and was second on the team with a slugging percentage of .727 with eight total bases. In the field, Gilane recorded 23 putouts and four assists with no errors. The Blugolds finished the week with a 3-1 record.

Pitcher – Zana Lorbetske, Righthanded Pitcher, 5-6, Sophomore, Rhinelander, Wis./Three Lakes

Appearing in one out of four games this week, Lorbetske allowed the fewest number of hits and runs and tied for a team-low ERA of 1.00 as she picked up a win over the University of Dubuque (Iowa) on Sunday. Lorbetske gave up just one run in the 2-1 win over Dubuque and allowed just three hits while striking out eight batters after pitching the complete game. Eight strikeouts were a season-high for Lorbetske while it was the second-highest total she reached in her career. Lorbetske is now 4-1 on the season.

Men’s Tennis

Ryan Vande Linde, Senior, Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial

Vande Linde helped the Blugolds to a 5-4 win over Augustana College (Ill.) in Madison on Saturday. With the Blugolds and Augustana tied 4-4, Vande Linde was able to secure the final victory to give the Blugolds the team win as he took No. 1 singles 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. The Blugolds were down 3-0 after doubles play but won five out of six singles matches to capture the win.
