EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Five UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action today, all on the road and competing in postseason competitions.

Women's Hockey

UW-River Falls 8, UW-Eau Claire 0

Playing in the first WIAC Championship tournament, the women's hockey team traveled to River Falls to take on the top-seeded Falcons in the semifinals. The Falcons scored two goals in the first period and never looked back as they cruised to an 8-0 win. The Falcons outshot the Blugolds 47-8.

Men's Indoor Track & Field

WIAC Championship - 3rd of 9

After day one of the 2014 WIAC Championship in Whitewater, the men’s indoor track & field team is in third place out of nine teams. Roger Steen led the Blugolds as he won the WIAC title in the shot put with a toss of 17.11 meters (56-01.75). Seven champions were determined Friday and  11 more will be determined Saturday. In other finals, Matt Scott was third in the one-mile run while Cody Prince was third in the 400-meter dash. In preliminaries, Brandon Zarnoth qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles as he took second by tying his own school record of 8.26 seconds. Thurgood Dennis came in second in the 60-meter dash to also qualify for finals.

Women's Indoor Track & Field

WIAC Championship - 7th of 9

After day one of the 2014 WIAC Championship in Whitewater, the women’s indoor track & field team is in seventh place out of nine teams. Eight titles were determined on day one and 10 more will be determined on Saturday. The distance medley relay team had the best result on day one as the team took fourth with a time of 12:24.55. Carly Fehler qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash as she had the second best time in preliminaries.

Men's Hockey

UW-Stevens Point 4, UW-Eau Claire 2

The ninth-ranked UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey team got down early and was unable to come back, falling 4-2 to third-ranked UW-Stevens Point in the first game in the semifinals of the WIAC Championship at K.B. Willett Arena tonight. Stevens Point struck early, scoring its first goal at 2:16 in the opening period. Less than five minutes later the Pointers scored again to get up 2-0. Both goals came on power-plays. The Blugolds added two goals after that in the first period to tie the game up at the first intermission. But one goal in the second period and another in the third by Stevens Point put the game out out of reach for Eau Claire. Stevens Point narrowly outshot the Blugolds 36-32.

Women's Diving

NCAA Regional

Three Blugold women’s divers competed on the first day of the NCAA Division III Diving Regional in Granville, Ohio at Denison University today. The women completed the three-meter dive today and will compete in the one-meter dive Saturday to determine who advances to the NCAA Division III Championship in Indianapolis, Ind., March 19-22. Sara Axness led the Blugolds today as she took third place with 461.65 points. Amanda Baker was second for Eau Claire with 439.20 points as she took seventh overall while Courtney Miller scored 404.80 points to finish in 14th place.
