2013-14 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 23 (Feb. 10-16)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Five UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the 23rd week of the 2013-14 season.

Gymnastics

Specialist – Karla Hagen, Senior Chaseburg, Wis./Viroqua

Hagen helped the Blugolds to a second-place finish as they took on UW-Oshkosh and Winona State University (Minn.) on Friday for Senior Night. She tied for the Blugolds’ best finish on the uneven bars as she scored a 9.100, a season-high, tying for fourth place. She was also 14th on the vault with a score of 8.900.


Men’s Indoor Track & Field

Track – Matt Scott, Senior, Kiel, Wis.

Competing at the University of St. Thomas Showcase on Friday, Scott won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.88, 0.17 seconds short of a school record that has been held since 2001 and the second fastest time in the nation this season. He also anchored the Blugolds’ 4x400-meter relay team that finished in second place with a time of 3:24.31.

Field – Roger Steen, Junior, Luck, Wis.

Competing at the University of St. Thomas Showcase on Friday, Steen won the shot put with a distance of 16.99 meters (55-9), a season-best and the fifth best mark in the nation so far this year. He also took third in the weight throw with a distance of 17.22 meters (56-6).


Women’s Indoor Track & Field

Field – Ashley Pohlman, Freshman, Janesville, Wis./Craig

Competing at the University of St. Thomas Showcase on Friday, Pohlman won the triple jump with a distance of 10.97 meters (36-0), tied for the 35th best distance in the nation this season.


Men’s Tennis

Ryan Vande Linde, Senior, Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial

Vande Linde won two No. 1 doubles matches and one No. 1 singles match as the Blugolds competed in Minnesota this weekend. He and partner Joe Meier won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles against Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) to start the day and ended the day with an 8-5 victory against Hamline University (Minn.) at No. 1 doubles. He also won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles against Hamline.
