EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - It was a busy day for UW-Eau Claire Athletics as nine teams competed today, six at home and three on the road.

Women's Swimming & Diving

UW-Whitewater 161.5, UW-Eau Claire 138.5

Elissa Hermsen led the UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team with two event victories as the Blugolds faced UW-Whitewater on Senior Day in the McPhee Physical Education Center today. Hermsen finished in first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.93 and won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.62. The Blugolds also had three other victories on the day.

Men's Swimming & Diving

UW-Whitewater 157, UW-Eau Claire 143

The men's swimming & diving team won eight events facing UW-Whitewater on Senior Day in the McPhee Physical Education Center today. Alex Card  led Eau Claire has he was part of four victories, three individually and one as part of a relay team. He took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.56 seconds, first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.36 and first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.74.

Wrestling

UW-Whitewater Border Brawl Duals
Concordia (Wis.) 30, UW-Eau Claire 17
North Central (Ill.) 33, UW-Eau Claire 13
UW-Eau Claire 28, Manchester (Ind.) 17

The wrestling team dropped two duals to start the day at the UW-Whitewater Border Brawl Duals, but finished the day with a win, the Blugolds' second dual meet victory of the season. Three Blugolds finished the day with 3-0 records: Nathaniel Behnke (141 pounds), Ryan Seidler (149 pounds), Luke Ortscheid (184 pounds).

Women's Hockey

UW-Superior 5, UW-Eau Claire 0

Playing against eighth-ranked UW-Superior for the second day in a row, the women's hockey team lost by an identical score to last night, 5-0, at Hobbs Ice Center this afternoon. In today's game, Superior scored two goals in the opening period and followed with three in the second period. Superior outshot Eau Claire 27-14.

Men's Indoor Track & Field

UW-Platteville Triangular - 2nd of 3

The men's indoor track & field team came away with five event victories, finishing in second place at the UW-Platteville Triangular today. UW-Platteville won the meet with 113 points while the Blugolds came in second with 101.5. UW-Stevens Point took third with 81.5. Roger Steen led Eau Claire as he won two events, the shot put and weight throw. Eau Claire also came away with 14 other top-three finishes.

Women's Indoor Track & Field

UW-Platteville Triangular - 3rd of 3

The women's indoor track & field team came away with four event victories, finishing in third place at the UW-Platteville Triangular today. UW-Stevens Point won the meet with 155.5 points while Platteville took second with 91.5 and Eau Claire was third with 88. Kayla Kelsey  had two of the Blugolds' four event wins as she took first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.03 seconds and won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.89 seconds. Eau Claire also came away with eight other top-three finishes.

Women's Basketball

UW-Eau Claire 76, UW-Stout 50

Facing UW-Stout, the women's basketball team led the entire way to beat the Blue Devils 76-50 on Ken Anderson Court in Zorn Arena this afternoon. After the Blugolds led by 15 points in the first half, Stout then used a 12-0 run to close the gap to just three but it was as close as the Blue Devils would get the rest of the way. Eau Claire led by as many as 28 points in the second half. Kristin Sahr led the game in scoring with 24 points, a career-high.

Men's Basketball

UW-Stout 89, UW-Eau Claire 67

The men's basketball had a lead just twice today, less than four minutes into the game, but UW-Stout had little trouble getting past the Blugolds 89-67 on Ken Anderson Court in Zorn Arena. With Eau Claire up 6-5, Stout outscored the Blugolds 26-9 over an eight-minute stretch in the first half to get up by 16 and the Blugolds could never catch up the rest of the way. Stout's largest lead of the game was 32 points. With three Blugolds reaching double digits in scoring, Adam Hjelter led the way with 19 points.

Men's Hockey

UW-River Falls 3, UW-Eau Claire 1

The men's hockey team saw its seven-game win streak come to an end tonight, falling 3-1 to UW-River Falls at Hobbs Ice Center. The Blugolds began their win streak on Dec. 13 while they were also on an eight-game unbeaten streak with their last loss coming on Dec. 7. The seven-game winning streak tied for the third longest in school history. Eau Claire started the game with a goal from David Donnellan, seven minutes into the first period. But River Falls scored three unanswered to capture the win. The Blugolds finished the game outshooting the Falcons 31-21.
