2013-14 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 19 (Jan. 13-19)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Eight UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the 19th week of the 2013-14 season.

Women’s Basketball

Teenie Lichtfuss, Guard, 5-10, Sophomore, Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes

Playing just one game this week at UW-Superior, Lichtfuss led the Blugolds in both scoring and rebounding. She finished the game with 19 points, a game-high, as she went 7-for-12 from the field, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She also pulled down five rebounds and had one steal.


Men’s Hockey

Tyler Green, Goalie, 6-3, 183, Sophomore, Noblesville, Ind.

Playing in one game this weekend against sixth-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.), Green stopped 39 shots playing all 60 minutes in-goal to give the Blugolds their sixth shutout of the season and fifth straight to set an NCAA Division III record. The Blugolds beat the Tommies 2-0 as they ran their shutout streak to 319:28 going back to Dec. 13. Starting nine games this year, Green now holds a 6-3-0 record as the Blugolds improved to 11-3-1.


Wresting

Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Sophomore, Bruce, Wis.

Behnke had the top finish for the Blugolds at Cornell College’s Matman Invitational on Saturday as he took fourth place at 141 pounds. Behnke started with a bye and then won his first competition 16-0 while following up with a 3-0 victory to advance to the semifinals. He then fell 6-1 in the semifinal but followed with a 10-5 win to compete for third place. In the third-place match, he came up short, 6-3, to finish in fourth place. Behnke now holds a 21-5 record this year.


Gymnastics

Specialist – Kellie Dougherty, Sophomore, White Bear Lake, Minn.

With the Blugolds competing against two NCAA Division I opponents on Saturday at the University of Illinois, Dougherty recorded a ninth-place finish on the uneven bars to lead the Blugolds in that event. Her score on the bars of 9.600 was a career-high and the second best mark in school history. Dougherty also tied for eighth on the balance beam with a score of 9.600, a career-best, while tying for 12th in the floor exercise with a 9.450.


Men’s Swimming & Diving

Swimming – Alex Card, Senior, Prior Lake, Minn.

Competing at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational this weekend where the Blugolds took third place, Card led the Blugolds as he won two events, the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke. He finished with a time of 1:59.96 in the 200 IM and 2:08.82 in the 200 breaststroke. He also took second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:21.32.

Diving – Shawn Westphal, Sophomore, Eau Claire, Wis./North

Competing at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational this weekend where the Blugolds took third place, Westphal claimed sixth-place finishes in both diving events. He scored 330.05 points in the one-meter and finished the three-meter with 324.20 points.


Women’s Swimming & Diving

Swimming – Elissa Hermsen, Freshman, Waunakee, Wis.

Competing at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational this weekend where the Blugolds took second place, Hermsen finished in the top eight in three events, winning one. She took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.39 and tied for third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.06. She also took eighth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:21.78.

Diving – Courtney Miller, Freshman, Richfield, Minn.

Competing at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational this weekend where the Blugolds took second place, Miller took second place in the one-meter dive with 434.95 points and took fourth in the three-meter with 401.65 points.
