2013-14 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 16 (Dec. 9-15)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Four UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the 16th week of the 2013-14 season.

Men’s Basketball

Lewis Mau, Guard, 6-3, 190, Junior, Colfax, Wis.

Playing in two games this week, Mau averaged 16 points and eight rebounds while playing 59 minutes. Saturday in a 64-63 win over Ashford University (Iowa), the Blugolds came back from 13 points down, and Mau scored a buzzer-beating layup to give the Blugolds the win. He finished the game with a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Against UW-Platteville on Wednesday, Mau had 11 points and a team-high six rebounds. For the week he also finished with six assists, three steals and one block.


Women’s Basketball

Courtney Lewis, Forward, 5-10, Junior, Prairie du Chien, Wis.

In two games this week, Lewis averaged 17.5 points and six rebounds while playing 71 minutes. Monday in a 72-53 win over the University of Minnesota-Morris, Lewis scored 16 points, shooting 77.8 percent (7-for-9) from the field while leading the game with nine assists and seven rebounds. Wednesday against UW-Platteville, the Pioneers got up by 22 points in the second half but the Blugolds worked their way back to get within one point before falling by six in the end. In that game, Lewis led the Blugolds in scoring with 19 points, 14 coming in the second half, while also coming away with five rebounds. For the week she also had four steals and one block.


Men’s Hockey

Joe Krause, Forward, 5-10, 184, Junior, Hermantown, Minn.

Krause helped the Blugolds to two victories this week, scoring three goals and picking up two assists. In a 6-1 win over MSOE on Friday, Krause got the Blugolds going, scoring the game’s first goal at 6:06 in the second period on a power-play. He also had an assist on the Blugolds’ fifth goal at 4:56 in the third period. Saturday in a 5-0 victory over Lawrence University, Krause scored the game’s first two goals, one in the first period and one in the second, while assisting on the fourth goal of the game. For the season, he now has a team-high 14 points and seven goals while he also has seven assists, tied for second most on the team.


Wrestling

Ryan Seidler, 149 Pounds, Senior, Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship

Competing in one match this week against 14th-ranked UW-Whitewater, Seidler came away with a 5-3 victory at 149 pounds over Nick Fanella. Seidler is now 8-2 on the season and has won three straight.
