EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Three UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action today, all on the road.

Women's Hockey

Bethel University (Minn.) 4, UW-Eau Claire 1

The women's hockey team played in its final game before a three-week break, falling 4-1 at Bethel University (Minn.) Saturday afternoon. The Royals got on the board first with a goal six minutes into the second period. The Blugolds answered less than eight minutes later at 13:36 with a goal from Nikki Kothenbeutel, tying the game at 1-1. But Bethel then scored three unanswered to win by three. Bethel outshot the Blugolds 27-19.

Men's Basketball

UW-Eau Claire 64, Ashford (Iowa) 63

Down most of the game, the men's basketball team came back to defeat Ashford University (Iowa), ranked 23rd in the latest NAIA poll, 64-63 with a buzzer beating layup at Kehl Arena tonight. After trailing by as many as 13 points, the Blugolds tied the game up at 51 points with just over seven minutes remaining. While the teams went back and forth from there, Ashford took a Blugold turnover with just a few seconds left and scored to get up 63-62. After a Blugold timeout, Lewis Mau scored on a layup at the buzzer to give the Blugolds the win. Mau led Eau Claire with 21 points while he and two other Blugolds recorded double-doubles.

Men's Hockey

UW-Eau Claire 5, Lawrence University 0

The 10th-ranked Blugold men’s hockey team shut down Lawrence University tonight, defeating the Vikings 5-0 to end the first half of the season. Eau Claire got two goals from Joe Krause, one in the opening period and one in the second. Three different Blugolds scored goals in the third period to give Eau Claire the 5-0 win. Eau Claire outshot Lawrence 38-14.
