2013-14 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 15 (Dec. 2-8)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Six UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the 15th week of the 2013-14 season.

Women’s Basketball

Courtney Lewis, Forward, 5-10, Junior, Prairie du Chien, Wis.

In two games this week, Lewis averaged 14 points and five rebounds, both of which led the team. Against UW-La Crosse on Saturday, she led the Blugolds with 19 points while leading the game with six steals and five assists. On Wednesday at UW-Stevens Point, Lewis tied for a team-high with nine points and led the team with six rebounds. She finished the week shooting 46.2 percent (12-for-26) from the field and averaged 37 minutes per game.


Wrestling

Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Sophomore, Bruce, Wis.

Behnke, ranked sixth at 141 pounds in the latest national rankings, went undefeated this week, picking up four wins. He won by forfeit Thursday against UW-Platteville. Saturday at the Candlewood Suites Duals at UW-La Crosse on Saturday, Behnke won two matches with major decisions while winning once by forfeit to finish 3-0 on the day. Behnke opened the day with a 9-1 win over Cornell's Samuel Chalkley and then won by forfeit against Loras. He ended the day with a 9-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State's Ethan Hildebrandt. Behnke now holds a 15-2 overall record this season and has won seven straight matches.


Women’s Hockey

Hadley Cookson, Forward, 5-6 Sophomore, Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka

Playing in two games this weekend against seventh-ranked UW-Stevens Point, Cookson scored two goals and picked up one assist. Friday night at Stevens Point, the Blugolds got down 3-0 but Cookson scored two goals in the third period and had an assist on the Blugolds’ first goal in the second period. The goals helped the Blugolds tie the game up and it went into overtime. In overtime, the Pointers scored to win 4-3. Saturday, Cookson had one shot in a 4-3 loss to Stevens Point.


Men’s Swimming & Diving

Swimming – Jake McDade, Junior, Monona, Wis./Monona Grove

Competing at the Rochester Invitational this weekend, hosted by St. Cloud State University (Minn.), McDade’s top finish came in the 1,650-yard freestyle as he took fourth with a time of 16:48.24. He was also seventh in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.34 and 10th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.59. McDade was also part of two relay teams that had finishes of ninth and 15th place.


Women’s Swimming & Diving

Swimming – Lisa Reed, Junior, Duluth, Minn./East

Competing at the Rochester Invitational this weekend, hosted by St. Cloud State University (Minn.), Reed’s top finish came in the 1,650-yard freestyle as she took sixth with a time of 18:07.24. She was also 12th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.96 and 17th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.70.

Diving – Amanda Baker, Sophomore, Hudson, Wis.

Competing at the Rochester Invitational this weekend, hosted by St. Cloud State University (Minn.), Baker took third in the three-meter dive with 386.25 points and sixth in the one-meter dive with 365.65 points.
