2013-14 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 14 (Nov. 25-Dec. 1)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Two UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the 14th week of the 2013-14 season.

Men’s Basketball

Adam Hjelter, Guard, 6-0, 172, Sophomore, Hutchinson, Minn.

Hjelter led the Blugolds in scoring twice this week as the team split wins at home. Tuesday in a 77-64 loss to Loras College (Iowa), he scored 25 points to lead the game. He then came back Saturday and scored a career-high 34 points, 19 of them coming in the second half. He finished the game going 8-for-11 from beyond the arc, just one basket away from the school record for most three-pointers made in a game, helping the Blugolds to an 87-73 win over Crown College (Minn.). Averaging 29.5 points per game, he shot 65.6 percent from the field (21-for-32) including 13-for-20 (65 percent) from beyond the arc. During the week, he also pulled down 11 rebounds, picked up two assists and had one steal.


Women’s Basketball

Teenie Lichtfuss, Guard, 5-10, Sophomore, Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes

Playing in two games this week, Lichtfuss led the Blugolds in scoring in one game as she averaged 15 points per contest. Against St. Norbert College on Tuesday, a game the Blugolds lost 69-50, she was second on the team with 12 points, playing 36 minutes. Saturday against Wartburg College (Iowa), a game the Blugolds narrowly lost 60-58, Lichtfuss recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds and a game-high 18 points. For the week she shot 44.8 percent (13-for-29) and had 30 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. Lichtfuss also came away with seven steals, four assists and one block.
