2013-14 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 11 (Nov. 4-10)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - A total of five UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the 11th week of the 2013-14 season.

Men’s Hockey

Tyler Green, Goalie, 6-3, 183, Sophomore, Noblesville, Ind.

Getting his first collegiate start this weekend to open the 2013-14 season, Green allowed just three goals and made 54 saves as the Blugolds won two games. Against St. Olaf College (Minn.) on Friday, Green recorded 20 saves while allowing just two goals in a 5-2 victory for No. 1-ranked UW-Eau Claire. Against 15th-ranked St. John’s University (Minn.) on Saturday, he stopped 34 out of 35 shots as the Blugolds won 3-1. For the season, he has a .947 save percentage and a 1.5 goals-against-average.


Women’s Hockey

Kim Van Brunt, Goalie, 5-5, Sophomore, Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines

Playing two games in-goal this weekend against St. Catherine University (Minn.), one on the road and one at home, the Blugolds finished with a win and a loss. Van Brunt recorded a shutout on Friday night as she stopped 17 shots, and the Blugolds won 3-0. Saturday she gave up two goals while making 17 saves as the Blugolds came up just short, 2-1. On the season she has a 1.01 goals-against-average and a .944 save percentage, playing 119:16.


Wrestling

Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Sophomore, Bruce, Wis.

Wrestling against seven opponents in two contests to open the 2013-14 season, Behnke has a 6-1 record. This past weekend at the Pointer Open, he won the 141 title by winning four straight matches. He opened by winning with two pins and then secured first place after a 7-2 win in the semifinals, followed by a 4-3 win in the championship. On Nov. 2 at the Yellowjacket Open, hosted by Rochester Community and Technical College, Behnke came in second place. He won the first two matches but then dropped a 6-3 decision in the championship match to take second.


Women’s Swimming & Diving

Swimming:  Lisa Reed, Junior, Duluth, Minn./East

Competing in three events this weekend against UW-La Crosse, Reed took the top spot in one of them. She claimed a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:21.08. She also took third in the 500-yard freestyle and was eighth in the 100-yard freestyle.

Diving:  Amanda Baker, Sophomore, Hudson, Wis.

Baker won one event while taking second in another as the Blugolds faced UW-La Crosse on Saturday. She won the three-meter with 251.85 points and was second in the one-meter with 253.2 points.
