2013-14 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 8 (Oct. 14-20)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - A total of four UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the eighth week of the 2013-14 season.

Soccer

Defense:  Allie Stone, Midfielder, 5-7, Senior, Senior, Madison, Wis./Verona Area

Competing in three games this week, two non-conference and one WIAC contest, Stone and the Blugolds finished 1-2. Saturday against UW-Platteville, Stone score the Blugolds’ lone goal on a penalty kick less than two minutes into the second half and the goal gave the Blugolds a 1-0 win. She finished the week with five shots, all of them on-goal, as the Blugolds finished with 17 shots on-goal to 12 combined between their three opponents. Stone and the Blugold defense also defended against 25 corner kicks in the three games.


Volleyball

Kelly Schuh, Outside Hitter, 5-10, Senior, Appleton, Wis./Hortonville

Competing in just one match this week, the Blugolds defeated UW-Stout 3-0. Schuh led the match with 13 kills while she tied for a match-high hitting percentage of .400 (30 attempts with just one error). She also tied for a match-best two block assists while recording 11 digs, second most in the match. Schuh finished with one service ace as well.


Women’s Cross Country

Lucy Ramquist, Sophomore, River Falls, Wis.

Competing in her first race of the season, Ramquist helped the Blugolds to a 10th place finish out of 37 teams at the Brooks Invitational, hosted by UW-Oshkosh, on Saturday. She placed 62nd out of 509 runners, the Blugolds’ third finisher, with a 6,000-meter time of 23:08.


Men’s Cross Country

Matt Scott, Senior, Kiel, Wis.

Scott finished with a collegiate 8,000-meter personal record on Saturday at the Brooks Invitational, hosted by UW-Oshkosh, helping the Blugolds to a third place finish out of 37 teams. He finished in 18th place out of 566 runners with a time of 25:05 and was the Blugolds’ second highest finisher.
