2013-14 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 7 (Oct. 7-13)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - A total of seven UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the seventh week of the 2013-14 season.

Football

Offense: Clint Larsen, Wide Receiver, 6-0, 193, Sophomore, Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial

Larsen scored both Blugold touchdowns, rushing, and was second on the team in both rushing and receptions against UW-Stevens Point in a 23-17 overtime loss Saturday. He finished the game with eight carries for 77 yards and scored a 26-yard touchdown in the second quarter and a 16-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter which helped the Blugolds tie the game at 17. He also had three receptions for five yards.

Defense: Thurgood Dennis, Cornerback, 6-0, 178, Junior, Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame

Dennis recorded six tackles (four solo, two assists) Saturday against UW-Stevens Point in a 23-17 overtime loss. He also broke up one pass.

Special Teams: Billy Emanuel, Kicker, 5-8, 183, Senior, Owatonna, Minn.

Emanual scored his first collegiate field goal Saturday against UW-Stevens Point, hitting a 27-yarder in the fourth quarter to get the Blugolds back to within seven (17-10). Later, he nailed an extra point at the end of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 17 and push it into overtime. Emanual also scored an extra point in the first quarter to give the Blugolds a 7-0 lead.


Women’s Tennis

Singles:  Madison Rossebo, Junior, Minnetonka, Minn.

Rossebo stayed undefeated at No. 5 singles (6-0) by picking up two wins this weekend. Friday, she defeated her Winona State University (Minn.) opponent 6-3, 6-0 and won 6-4, 6-4 Saturday against UW-La Crosse. She is 5-1 in conference play while she is 10-3 overall.

Doubles:  Katie Gillman, Senior, Red Wing, Minn. & Maddie Johnson, Junior, Lakeville, Minn./South

Gillman and Johnson picked up their ninth straight win to improve to 12-3 on the season as they beat both Winona State University (Minn.) on Friday and UW-La Crosse on Saturday 8-5. Playing at No. 1 doubles, the pair is 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference.


Volleyball

Keagan Kinsella, Middle Hitter, 5-8, Freshman, Chanhassen, Minn.

Kinsella led the Blugolds in blocking this weekend while leading the team in hitting percentage at the Blugolds’ Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament. She led or tied for a team high in blocking in three out of four matches, finishing with a total of 18 blocks (one solo, 17 assists). She also hit .301 with 46 kills and 15 errors in 103 attempts. As a team, the Blugolds finished 2-2 with one win Friday and one Saturday.
