Game Day Review - Saturday, October 5, 2013

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Five UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action Saturday, all on the road. The men's hockey team also hosted the Wisconsin Badgers for an intrasquad scrimmage at Hobbs Ice Center.

Women's Tennis

UW-Eau Claire 8, UW-Oshkosh 1

The women's tennis team turned in another dominant performance over a conference opponent, beating UW-Oshkosh 8-1 at the YMCA Tennis Center in Oshkosh. The win moves the Blugolds to 4-1 in conference play, 6-2 overall.

Women's Golf

WIAC Championship - 1st of 7

The women's golf team jumped to lead at the 2013 WIAC Championship after the second of three days of competition at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course. The Blugolds have gathered 673 strokes over the first two days of the event, while defending champion UW-Stout has 679 strokes. UW-Eau Claire entered the second round with a two-stroke deficit to the Blue Devils. Individually, Blugold Kate Engler tops the 51-player field with 154 strokes.

Football

UW-Platteville 49, UW-Eau Claire 27

In a game that featured 11 touchdowns, including 10 passing, and a combined 76 points, the football team fell to ninth-ranked UW-Platteville 49-27 on the Pioneers' Homecoming at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium today. For Eau Claire, Mark Munger threw three touchdown passes with 177 yards. Joel Sweeney led the Blugolds with 127 yards rushing. Sean Graham led the team with eight tackles.

Women's Volleyball

Augsburg College 3, UW-Eau Claire 0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-19)
Saint Benedict 3, UW-Eau Claire 1 (19-25, 25-13, 25-8, 25-19)

The women's volleyball team fell twice against nationally-ranked opponents at the Saint Mary's Invitational at Gostomski Fieldhouse today. Facing 19th-ranked Augsburg College (Minn.), Eau Claire fell 3-0 to start the day, and dropped a match to 10th-ranked College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) 3-1 to end the day. Kelly Schuh led both matches with 11 kills in each contest.

Women's Soccer

UW-Eau Claire 3, UW-Stevens Point 2 (OT)

Last season, the women's soccer team had its season come to an end at the hands of UW-Stevens Point in an overtime loss in the semifinals of the WIAC tournament. Today, the Blugolds got revenge with an overtime victory of their own, a 3-2 win in the first overtime at Stevens Point. Caroline Henderson was the hero, scoring just 2:02 into overtime to send the Blugolds (4-3-3, 1-1-1) home with the victory, also their first conference win of the season.

Men's Hockey

The Blugolds hosted the Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team for an intrasquad scrimmage at Hobbs Ice Center today. In front of a crowd of 1,093, the scrimmage consisted of a 30-minute practice followed by two 20-minute periods and a shootout. After a 3-3 tie to end the two periods, the Red team won the shootout 6-3. All funds raised through ticket sales went to the Blugold men's hockey team.
