Blugolds Participate in Special Olympics' Polar Plunge

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – A number of UW-Eau Claire student-athletes and coaches competed in the 2012 Eau Claire Polar Plunge, organized by Special Olympics Wisconsin, on February 26 at Half Moon Beach in Carson Park.

Both the Blugold women’s soccer and softball teams competed as teams at the event while a number of other Blugolds gathered donations for Team WIAC.

With 20 members, the women’s soccer team raised $1,410. The team also won the plunge’s “school challenge” for online donations and as a prize the team rode to the plunge in a limousine.

The softball team raised $695 and had nine members.

A total of 19 Blugold football players helped raise $1,480 for Team WIAC, which collected a total of $3,095. Also raising money for team WIAC were members of the Blugold women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track & field and men’s swimming & diving teams.

Men’s basketball coach Kyle Green and his family also took the plunge.
