Blugolds earn All-WIAC honors

MADISON (Blugolds.com) - The 2017 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Football Team was announced Wednesday, with several Blugolds earning honors.

Selected by the league coaches, Kaeleb Stangler (Sr. – Rochester, MN/John Marshall), Ryan Ames (Sr. – Shakopee, MN) and Victor Martinelli (Fr. – Milton, WI) were all named Defensive Honorable Mention.

Stangler ranked fifth in the WIAC in tackles for a loss (nine solo, five assisted) and was 13th in the WIAC in total tackles (56), including 27 solo.

Ames ranked fifth in the WIAC for pass defense, tallying nine breakups and three interceptions. The senior's three turnovers ranked seventh in the conference for that category.

Martinelli was fourth in the WIAC for sacks (6) and ninth in tackles for a loss with nine solo and two assisted tackles for a total of 70 yards. The newcomer also recorded 46 total tackles (37 solo) for Eau Claire.

In addition, Jake Coenen (Sr. – Schofield, WI/DC Everest) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
