Football Falls to No. 7 Warhawks

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Football team (0-8, 0-5 WIAC) fell to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks 63-0 on Saturday at Perkins Stadium. It was homecoming for the Warhawks who entered the contest ranked seventh in the nation for division III.

The defending National Champions were too much for the Blugolds as the Warhawks jumped on top early and mounted a 28-point lead in the first quarter. The Blugolds picked up 14 first downs compared to the Warhawks 17, but they struggled to move the ball through the air and failed to reach the end zone.

Gerald Childs (So. – Brookfield, WI) rushed 24 times for 81 yards which was tied for the game lead. JT Denhartog (Fr. – Hopkins, MN) added 32 yards rushing getting the start at quarterback. He finished 9-20 through the air with 39 yards and an interception.

Kaeleb Stangler (So. – Rochester, MN) led all defensive players with eight tackles, adding one for a loss. Eric Hulman (Sr. – Milwaukee, WI) added three tackles, two of them for a loss.

The Blugolds have just two games left of the regular season as they still search for their first win. They get the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (5-2) next week who is currently ranked No. 16 in Division III by d3football.com. That game is set for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Carson Park on Saturday, November 7.
