2014 Football Athletes of the Week

November 10-16, 2014

Defense:  Kaeleb Stangler, Inside Linebacker, Freshman, 6-1, 216, Rochester, MN/John Marshall
Stangler made the most of his first start of the year as the Blugolds fell to UW-La Crosse 20-10 in the season finale for both teams.  Entering the game with six unassisted tackle for the entire season, Stangler led both teams with eight total tackles, seven of which were solo.  Stangler also recorded his first sack of the season.  It was one of five total sacks for the Blugold defense that held the Eagles to 94 total passing yards.

On a cold and snowy day, Jon Van Geffen saved his best for last as the senior played his best statistical game of the year in a 20-10 setback to UW-La Crosse.  Entering the game with 86 total rushing yards on 25 attempts for the season, Van Geffen carried the ball 35 times for 175 yards including his first touchdown of the season.  His rushing total was more than any other Blugold ball carrier had totaled for the entire season besides Riley Gebelien, who had 230 yards rushing for the season entering the game.  The single-game rushing total was the fourth-best total by a WIAC running back this season trailing UW-La Crosse’s Ben Hertrampf (234 yards vs UW-Eau Claire 11/15/14) and UW-Platteville’s Andy Puccini (202 yards against Dubuque 9/13/14 and 176 yards against UW-La Crosse 11/8/14)

LeMire kicked a season-long 32-yard field goal as the Blugolds fell to UW-La Crosse in the season finale 20-10.  On a cold and snowy day, LeMire made his lone field goal attempt of the day in addition to his only point-after touchdown attempt of the day.
