MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire football player Joel Sweeney (Jr.-Tomah, Wis.) and women's tennis player Mary Frassetto (Jr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Sweeney had 185 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns as the Blugolds defeated UW-La Crosse 24-9 at Carson Park on Oct. 13.  Sweeney scored both of the Blugolds' touchdowns in the first half and added another in the fourth quarter, the fourth time in his career he has rushed for three touchdowns.  His 185 yards is the second-largest total Sweeney has accumulated in a single game in his career.  In the first quarter alone, Sweeney recorded 112 yards on 17 carries.

Frassetto went 2-0 during the week in the No. 5 spot as the Blugolds split matches.  Against NCAA Division II Winona State University (Minn.) on Oct. 12, a match the Blugolds lost 6-3, Frassetto recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win.  She then won 7-5, 6-1 as the Blugolds beat UW-La Crosse 6-3 on Oct. 13.  Frassetto has won 10 straight matches in dual competitions, improving to 10-1 overall.
