Looking to build off Sunday's road win, the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire women's soccer hosted St. Olaf College Wednesday. By playing with an aggressive style and making small passes to gain field position, the Blugolds earned their first win at home for the year by a score of 3-1.

Once again, it was Eau Claire getting the first strike. After receiving a ball to the corner, Sami Matuszak (Sr. – Green Bay, WI/Preble) would take a shot from the left side of the box. The ball would float in and over the St. Olaf goalkeeper to find the opposite, bottom corner. That would be Matuszak's first goal of the season and ninth of her Blugold career.

With just a couple minutes left in the half, the Blugolds would receive a free kick just outside the St. Olaf box. Emily Sullivan (So. – Medina,MN/Wayzata) would take the kick and sent it into the box. The ball would bounce off an Oles player and into the back of the net.

The Blugolds would end the half leading not only on the scoreboard, but also in shots attempted, shots on goal, and saves.

The second half would begin with Eau Claire getting on the board first once again. Mckenna Gieske (Fr. – Blaine, MN/Centennial) would start it off by capitalizing on a corner kick to net her first goal on the year. Shortly after, St. Olaf would earn themselves a penalty and score.

Despite both goalkeepers getting playing time, Anna Sveiven (Fr. - Blaine, MN) stopped all five shots she faced and improved her record to 2-3-1.

The Blugolds will look to continue their current winning ways when they travel to Minnesota next Wednesday to take on Augsburg University at 7:30 p.m. Catch all the action at Blugold Game Day.
