Roy Munroe’s senior season with the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team ended with Munroe competing at the highest level.
The Cadott graduate qualified for the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on March 11 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa after finishing second at 149 pounds at the West Regional held in Minneapolis.
Munroe went 21-7 on the season and started the year with a splash, going 12-1 in his first 13 matches. He fell in his opening match at the national tournament by 10-4 decision before falling in his final match by a 7-1 decision.
He finished second in the WIAC tournament at 149 pounds with a win by pinfall in 1:18, a 15-0 major decision and an 11-6 decision. Munroe avoided being defeated via pinfall all season.
Munroe was a Co-Chippewa County Wrestler of the Year in 2010 after capturing a Division 3 state championship at 145 pounds as a junior with the Hornets. He finished second at state in 2009 at 135 pounds and in 2011 at 145 pounds.

Gibson on hot streak for Pipers
In her junior season with the Hamline women’s tennis team, Chi-Hi graduate Maggie Gibson has picked up her singles play over the last few matches.
Gibson is on a 3-0 winning streak to bring her overall record to 7-6 in singles competition. She is 2-8 in doubles play, having competed with a number of partners.
Her 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory over College of St. Scholastica’s Alexia Brascugli at No. 6 singles on Monday was her team’s lone win against the Saints. She followed it up with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hollins’ Wibecka Oliver at No. 5 singles as Hamline picked up an 8-1 win.
The Pipers’ season continues on April 2 at home against St. Olaf.
Gardner 16th in heptathlon at MIAC indoor meet
Chi-Hi graduate Joe Gardner earned a 16th-place finish in the seven-event heptathlon for Saint Mary’s University at the MIAC Indoor Championships on March 5.
Gardner finished with a score of 3,341, led by a second-place finish in the 55 hurdles, 10th in the 55 dash and 15th in the 1,000. He also took 16th in the shot put, 17th in the long jump and 18th in the pole vault and the high jump events in his sophomore campaign.
Saint Mary’s begins the outdoor season with the Saint Mary’s Invitational on April 2.
Jarosz keeps raking at Concordia-St. Paul
Liz Jarosz has started her junior season with the Concordia-St. Paul softball team hitting the ball, just as she did in her previous two seasons with the team.
The Chi-Hi graduate is batting .306 through 22 games for the Golden Bears, good for third on the team. She’s also among the team leaders in slugging (third, .452), on-base percentage (fourth, .403), runs (fourth, tied with 12), hits (third, 19), RBIs (fourth, 11) and doubles (second, six).
Concordia-St. Paul is 6-16 on the season and 0-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Golden Bears continue their season at home against Minnesota-Duluth on Friday.
