Blugolds 3rd in Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings

CLEVELAND – In the first set of winter Learfield Directors' Cup standings, the Blugolds have moved their way up into third place.

UW-Eau Claire has 426.75 total points after capturing the national championship in men's indoor track & field, finishing 9th in women's indoor track & field and 23rd in wrestling.

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) leads all Division III conferences in the top 10 with four institutions – Wisconsin Eau Claire (3rd), Wisconsin La Crosse (4th), Wisconsin Whitewater (6th) and Wisconsin Oshkosh (7th).

Williams currently leads the field with 524.75 points with Washington-St. Louis is second with 491.50.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports in Division II – seven men's and seven women's; and 18 sports in Division III-- nine women's and nine men's. The next Division II & III winter standings will be released Thursday, March 31.

Standings published midseason are unofficial.  Official standings will be published upon the completion of the spring season. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's website at www.directorscup.org.
